Colorado Casino Workers at Bally's Black Hawk Unionize for First Time

Employees at Bally's Black Hawk Casino in Colorado have joined the Teamsters union on August 14, 2026. This event marks the first instance of casino worker unionization within the state.

A total of 110 staff members, including cooks, cashiers, bartenders, and maintenance technicians, secured representation through a card-check process. The group joined Teamsters Local 445 to negotiate wage increases, improved benefits, and safer working conditions.

Union Representation and Neutrality Agreement

Dean Modecker, secretary-treasurer of Local 455, stated that the union is ready to represent the new bargaining unit in the fight for a fair first contract. Tommy Blitsch, director of the Teamsters convention, trade show and casino division, noted that the victory provides workers with a stronger voice on the job.

The unionization followed a neutrality agreement reached between the Teamsters and Bally's last November. Under this arrangement, employees were able to choose union representation by signing authorization cards. Bally's Black Hawk operates three casino properties featuring over 540 slots and 33 table games.
